You're sure to find that book you want, and usually choices in the cost of the book and shipping, and shape of the book. I've found almost every out-of-print book I've been looking for here, as well as sellers who sell large backlists of books by the same author (so I could buy a bunch at once of an author I just discovered, and pay a lower shipping cost). Recommended!

Looking for a book that you loved and read in the past, and now can’t remember the name of the author, or title of the book, or even much of the plot? Then head on over to "Find a Book" on Live Journal; it's a fantastic blog community of readers that helps you find books you’ve lost or can't remember well. Responses come quickly, and "lost" books are usually found. Highly rcommended.

Database of Award-Winning Children’s Literature
The Database of Award-Winning Children’s Literature (DAWCL) looks like a great place to find new books you might be interested in, and revisit ones you’ve loved. You can search by subject/keyword, and/or narrow your search by age, setting, historical period, ethnicity of the main character, format, genre, even gender of the protagonist.

NetLibrary
Netlibrary is a true modern-day digital library–it allows you to download and read or listen to ebooks and audiobooks through your library system. If your library system has this, you’re all set to borrow books online. To access NetLibrary, you go to your library’s website, and then search for the NetLibrary (or ebook and audiobook) link, and log in through there (you’ll need your library card). If your library system doesn’t have NetLibrary, you can always request that they join.

Because it’s a library, you can download and listen to the audiobook, or read the ebook, for a set number of days (through my library it’s 7 days), and then it becomes unusable on your computer or MP3 player–unless, of course, you renew it for another 7 days.

Through The Magic Door - an independant online children's bookstore
Through the Magic Door focuses on bringing backlist titles and overseas titles–good news for readers who like reading all the books their favorite authors write, and discovering great new books that they might not otherwise have access to. It’s good news for authors, too. The bookstore also sells prints and posters from children’s books, which I just love. I even love the bookstore’s name–it’s perfect for a children’s bookstore, and the magic that books can bring.
Through the Magic Door has a forum on their site to help create a feeling of community and begin discussions about books, geared toward readers, librarians, kids, parents, and teachers. There’s also a resources section, with links to book-related articles, blogs, sites, booklists, awards, author/illustrator sites, and more, which is a wonderful idea, and a valuable resource for readers.

An If You Like list (if you like this book, you might also like...) from a library. You can search by author, theme, or keyword, or browse the complete list.

Overbooked
Overbooked creates lists of children's and teen books that have received starred reviews (as well as many other genres). Worth checking out!

Library Thing
The Library Thing offers suggestions of books you might enjoy reading. You type in the title of a book you love in the "books I own", then it quickly shows you a list of books that people who own that book also have. I tried a teen fiction book, and the results I got were indeed books I enjoy (including some by the same author), although most were not the same genre (ie I put in a YA paranormal fantasy, and got back many books that were realistic fiction. Still, I like those books.)
You can also enter what you're reading or your whole collection of books into the system, and then find similar people's collections. It sounds wonderful.
You can enter 200 books for free (so easily try it out), or pay $10 a year or $25/life.

Children's and Young Adult Book Reading Resources by Cynthia Leitich Smith
Cynthia Leitich Smith covers a huge amount of children's and teen books, giving a summary of the book's story, and a few succinct lines of review. (In the menu on the left, you can choose to browse by age group, genre, etc. Also, click on one of the subtitles under "Bibliographies.") Want to find something good to read? Check out her pages. If you like suspense books, check out this page of recommended reads.
Cynthia is also a writer for children and teens; you can check out her books as well.

Carol Hurst's Children's Literature Site
There are lots of reviews of children's and YA books here, coupled with ideas of how teachers can use them in the classroom. Each book review mentions the grade level, and the books reviewed range from Pre-K all the way up to grade 9. There's a featured book section, and an archive of all reviewed books. Reviews are also categorized by theme, topic, and subject, and there's a free monthly newsletter. Great for educators!

TeenReads.com
This site has well-written and thoughtful reviews, an author section featuring authors that TeenRead.com has interviewed or featured their book on, a book club and reading guide for teens, a message board, and a newsletter.

Canadian Review of Materials
Great reviews, well-written and thoughtful. This site has reviews of books for kids and teens, and mainly focuses on Canadian titles. The site has reviews going back to 1972, as well as current titles, and you can search by title, author, date, age/grade, or read the current issue or the back issues.

Reading Rants! Out of the ordinary teen booklists
One of my favourite sites! There are some wonderful booklists here, including Teen Tearjerkers: Stories that will make you sniff; Riot Grrrl: Best Riot Grrrrl Reads!; Bare Bones: Honest Fiction about Weight and Eating Disorders; Closet Club: Gay Fiction for Teens; and more. When you click on each booklist, you get to an engaging summary, review, and rating of the books, along with pictures of the covers. Conversational, interesting, thoughtful and thought-provoking -- need I say more? :)

Cumberland Public Library
Very short comments on books by teens (the age of the teen mentioned), sometimes only saying something like "I liked the book," organized by genre.

The “World’s Greatest Teenage Reading Group . . . Probably”
The “World’s Greatest Teenage Reading Group . . . Probably” is an online group for people who love reading YA/teen fiction, where you can talk about teen fiction with like-minded people. The group’s existed since 2004, and is now open to everyone, worldwide. The blog is run by Kelley Townley.
Each month, one book is chosen–a book available in both the US and the UK (which also means it’s available in Canada). I like that awareness of an online audience, knowing that people can join in around the world. It’s also neat to see the two book covers, one for each country, and see how they differ. The book covers end up being a whole separate discussion. :)

Book Muse
. BookMuse offers "discussion, thoughtful commentaries, author bios, leader's tips, suggestions for further reading" for books for all ages, including picture books and teen fiction. (See the sections on the left.)

Book Collector by Collectorz.com
Book Collector is a great program for people who love books–and who want to keep track of which books are in their collection, which books they still want to buy or borrow from the library, or even which books they’ve read.
It’s super easy and fast to add a book–all you have to do is type in the title, author, or isbn, or scan the isbn, and it will do a search for you online, grabbing the title, a thumbnail image of the cover, and all the relevant information, even the summary written up in an online bookstore. You can even export your book lists to your iPod or PDA, so you can view them in the store (pro edition only). There are so many ways you can organize the books, even adding or deleting columns, creating columns with your own titles, grouping them in folders (like by genre, publisher, or author), and searching is fast and easy. I love this program; it was well worth the money I spent on it. Check it out.

The ALA Store
The ALA store has a selection of wonderful book-related posters and bookmarks, including celebrity-read posters, author series posters, and posters based on children's picture books and TV and film characters (including DC's Superman); banned books week posters and bookmarks; and book and reading related stationary, jewelry, bibs, pet collars, cups, and more.

Book Jokes @ Basic Jokes
This site has a set of truly enjoyable humor about books. However, there are a lot of pop-ups and ads on this site, which can interfere with the enjoyment. My top favorites in their book humor are "Spy Novel" (which I enjoyed immensely), and "Reference Queries," some of which made me laugh out loud. From Reference Queries: "Actual reference queries reported by American and Canadian library reference desk workers of various levels. 'Do you have books here?'
'Do you have a list of all the books I've ever read?'"

Something Called ... B-O-O-K
A short, funny vignette on a new product called book. :) Author unknown. This has been around the internet for a while. Enjoyable! "Announcing the new Built-in Orderly Organized Knowledge device (BOOK). It's a revolutionary breakthrough in technology: no wires, no electric circuits, no batteries, nothing to be connected or switched on. It's so easy to use even a child can operate it. Just lift its cover. . . ."

Book Mooch
"Give books away, get books you want." You pay only for the postage of the books you send to others. Sounds like a great way to get books that you want or that are new to you--trade your old ones. It works on a system of points, where you get a certain amount of points for listing books you're willing to mail to others, a certain amount for actually shipping books, and then a certain amount detracted for books that you request. It looks like fun.

Readers United
An online book swapping group, where you can get books you want for only the cost of postage (you mail books you don't want to others, paying for the postage, and you can request books). A great idea.

PaperBook Swap
Another online book swapping group, where you can get books you want for only the cost of postage (you mail books you don't want to others, paying for the postage, and you can request books).

Book Crossing
This is a different kind of book exchange program--it's a lot more hit and miss, but it sounds fun to participate. Readers select books they've enjoyed, and then leave them somewhere--on a park bench, at a coffee shop, at a hotel on vacation. They also imput on the BookCrossing website where they've left the book (and at what time and day) and zealous 'book hunters' may actually find a book...though I think it's more likely that a random person will. People who patricipate attach a BookCrossing post-it on the book that lets the person who discovers it know that the book is a freebie, that they can take it home and read it. You can track books online and see which ones have found new owners, and how many times. A neat idea.
